Anonymous, and built to stay that way.

When you complete the survey, we store one row containing:

• The country you moved from and the country you moved to.
• How long you have lived there, as one of five broad bands.
• Your age as one of seven broad bands, or nothing if you preferred not to say.
• A broad profession category, whether you have children, and the single biggest reason you moved.
• Your answer to whether you would make the same move again.
• Whether you are considering leaving, and in which direction, if you chose to answer.
• A one-way hash used to stop the same browser answering the same route twice.
• The time the response was recorded.

• Your name, email address or phone number.
• Your address, city or any location more precise than a country.
• Your employer, job title or salary.
• Your date of birth.
• Your immigration status, religion or ethnicity.
• Any free-text field where you could identify yourself by accident.

The demographic bands are deliberately wide. They exist so results can be broken down in interesting ways, not so anyone can be picked out.

Your browser generates a random identifier the first time you visit and stores it locally. When you submit, the server combines that identifier with the migration route and a secret it holds, and stores only the resulting one-way hash.

The hash cannot be reversed back into the identifier, and the identifier was never linked to you in the first place. It exists for one purpose: to notice that this browser has already answered this route within the last 180 days. Clearing your browser storage removes it. No device fingerprinting of any kind is used.

Individual responses are never published, never made searchable and never shown to anyone. Only aggregates appear on the site, and only once a group has at least 20 responses behind it.

Submissions are checked with Cloudflare Turnstile, a privacy-focused alternative to conventional captchas. Turnstile receives a token from your browser and your IP address as part of that check. It does not receive your survey answers.

We also keep a short-lived log of submission attempts containing a salted hash of the requesting IP address, used only for rate limiting. The raw IP address is not stored.

We use privacy-friendly product analytics to count page views and a small set of product actions: survey started, survey completed, results viewed, route shared, route searched. No cookies are set for analytics, and no demographic answer is ever sent to an analytics provider.

Survey responses are kept indefinitely, because the point of the project is a dataset that gets more useful over time. They contain nothing that identifies you. Submission attempt logs are kept only as long as they are useful for rate limiting and abuse review.

Because responses are anonymous, we cannot find yours to change or delete it, and neither can anyone else. If that matters to you, the safest moment to decide is before you submit.
